Remembrance Sunday falls on 8 November 2026. In 2025 the parade left Wesley Street at 10.20am and Lord Street shut from 10am. 2026 timings are due in November.

Remembrance Sunday 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November. The Royal British Legion holds it on the second Sunday of November every year (Royal British Legion, Southport branch), and 8 November is the second Sunday this year.

What is not yet published, as of 6 September, is the 2026 running order: assembly time, march-off time and the exact road closures. Southport Royal British Legion put its 2025 timings out on 5 November, four days before the event, so expect this year’s to land in the first week of November. The paragraphs below set out what happened in 2025, which is the reliable guide to what will happen again, and this page will be updated the moment the 2026 detail is confirmed.

Where the parade forms up

The Southport parade starts at the Armed Forces Community Hub on Wesley Street in the town centre, which is the branch headquarters. In 2025 a Southport Royal British Legion spokesperson set out the arrangements like this (Stand Up For Southport, 5 November 2025):

  • the hub opened at 9.30am for anyone wishing to march
  • the parade marched off from Wesley Street at 10.20am
  • less able participants met at the junction of Chapel Street and London Street at 10.40am to join the last part of the march
  • Army and RAF cadets marched with their contingents from Wesley Street, and Sea Cadets joined at the end of Chapel Street, a change from previous years made “in line with guidance from Merseyside Police”

Anyone not marching was asked to gather at the memorial in time for the service to start shortly after 10.45am. All veterans and serving personnel were welcome to join without booking anything.

The route runs from Wesley Street through the town centre streets to the war memorial on Lord Street, the tall obelisk and colonnades usually called The Monument.

Road closures on the day

Sefton Council confirms that “during the Remembrance Services road closures are put in place to ensure the safe operation of the services taking place” (Sefton Council, war memorials). The council does not publish the closure list far in advance.

The pattern in Southport is a short town centre closure across the middle of the morning. Reporting the arrangements in 2023, Eye on Southport described Lord Street and the roads immediately around The Monument closed to traffic at the traffic lights for a period between 10am and 12pm, with drivers advised to use the Promenade or side streets and to avoid the Lord Street and Nevill Street lights (Eye on Southport, 11 November 2023).

The other services across Sefton

Remembrance Sunday services in the borough are “jointly organised events between the Royal British Legion and Sefton Council’s Civic and Mayoral Services”, held at the cenotaphs in the four main areas of Bootle, Crosby, Southport and Waterloo (Sefton Council, war memorials).

Smaller services are held at village memorials on the same morning. In 2023 these were listed as Southport town centre at The Monument, Ainsdale on the Village Green, Hightown at the roundabout by St Stephen’s Church, Ince Blundell on Back o’ The Town Lane, and Formby, where the parade runs between the Gild Hall on Church Road and Holy Trinity Church on Rosemary Lane. Formby is the outlier on timing: its parade started at 2pm and returned to the Gild Hall from 4pm, with rolling roadblocks rather than a fixed closure (Eye on Southport, November 2023). Treat all of those as the usual pattern rather than confirmed 2026 arrangements.

Poppies, and what the appeal raised

The Poppy Appeal runs through the fortnight before. In 2025 the branch said Southport had raised “just over £30,000” the previous year, and listed sale points including the Armed Forces Community Hub on Wesley Street, Sainsbury’s and Christ Church on Lord Street, Tesco on Albert Road, Asda at Central 12, Southport railway station, M&S on Chapel Street, the Co-op on Fylde Road and Morrisons on Queens Road in Churchtown, Tesco Express and the Methodist Church on Liverpool Road in Birkdale, the Co-op on Station Road in Ainsdale, Spar on Ovington Road in Kew and the Co-op on Hoole Lane in Banks (Stand Up For Southport, November 2025). Cash and card were both accepted.

The branch also runs a black tie Remembrance Dinner shortly after the Sunday. In 2025 it was held at the Masonic Hall on Duke Street on Saturday 15 November. No 2026 date has been published.

Armistice Day is the Wednesday

The two-minute silence on Armistice Day itself falls on Wednesday 11 November 2026, three days after the parade. That is observed at 11am rather than marked with a parade.
