We checked 4 Christmas tree sellers near Southport, from Massams' barn at Halsall to Giltrees at Bickerstaffe, for prices and dates. Updated November 2026.

There are four places near Southport selling real Christmas trees in 2026 with their dates and prices published, and this guide puts them in one place with delivery details. Most people land on Massams Christmas Tree Barn at Halsall, an indoor barn on the edge of town; Giltrees at Bickerstaffe, a family grower since 1965; and Rainfords Farm near St Helens, where the tree is cut when you choose it. Every entry was checked against the seller’s own website on 5 November 2026.

We have not bought a tree from any of these for this guide, and nothing here is a review. Each entry says what the seller says it does, with its own prices. Dates and stock change as the season goes on, so ring before a long drive.

Near Southport

1. Massams Christmas Tree Barn, Halsall

A landscaping and building supplies yard at Renacres Hall Farm, off the A5147 opposite Renacres Hall Hospital, which turns into a Christmas tree barn each winter. The business says a visit “has become a family tradition for many households in Halsall and the surrounding area”, and that it sells more than 20,000 trees wholesale and about 2,500 to the public.

The trees, 3ft to 12ft, stand unwrapped on wooden log bases inside the barn so you can see their shape, and staff wrap them and help load the car. Trees up to 25ft can be ordered.

The barn is indoors but not heated. There is a Christmas shop with stands, lights and wreaths, and Christmas markets with craft, food and drink stalls on the first two weekends.

Online pre-orders are taken from 1 to 30 November only, for delivery in the first week of December, with no set time slots.

Massams delivers trees to PR8, PR9, L37 (Formby), L38, L39 and L40, among other Sefton and West Lancashire postcodes. It does not collect trees after Christmas.

2. Giltrees, Bickerstaffe

A family business on Liverpool Road at Bickerstaffe, south of Ormskirk, that has grown Christmas trees since 1965, when Owen C. Giller, who then ran a market stall, tried selling trees in the quiet weeks of December.

It is now run by the third generation, which says “all we do is grow Christmas trees”. Most of its trees grow in Lancashire, about ten minutes from the shop, and it grows lodgepole pine in its own forest in the Scottish Highlands.

It says it never cuts a tree without planting at least one in its place. At the farm you choose a freshly cut Nordmann fir, Fraser fir, Norway spruce or lodgepole pine, or a pot-grown tree up to 4ft, and there is a Christmas shop.

Its delivery arm, Christmastrees2you, lists Southport and Formby among the towns it covers.

The online shop is at christmastrees2you.com. Giltrees advises against bringing a tree indoors too early, and suggests a fresh cut at the base and a stand that holds water; its staff will cut the base for you.

Open Christmas shop from 1 November; trees from 25 November (dates as given on its site, which does not state the year)

3. Rainfords Farm, Eccleston, St Helens

A five-generation family farm on Catchdale Moss Lane, north-west of St Helens, which grows its own trees. You walk the plantation fields and the tree is cut on the spot when you choose it, or you can tag one until 15 November, pay on the day and have it cut nearer Christmas.

It grows Nordmann fir, Norway spruce, Fraser fir, balsam fir and blue spruce, with noble fir when available, plus rooted trees of 3 to 6ft to plant out afterwards. The fields can be muddy, so the farm suggests wrapping up warm.

There is the Après Tree Kitchen and Bar, with a log burner and seasonal menu, a barn of decorations and an in-house florist.

Rainfords delivers to PR postcodes with its own team rather than a courier. It gives the day of delivery but not the time.

Besides Nordmann fir it lists Norway spruce, noble fir, Fraser fir, Korean fir and slim-shaped Nordmann firs, plus potted trees and stands. It says its Nordmann firs will have little or no needle drop for up to five weeks with the right care.

The delivery charge is not on the tree page and is added at checkout.

Getting rid of the tree in January

Queenscourt Hospice volunteers collect real trees from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 January 2027, from 9am. They cover PR8, PR9, PR4 6, L37, L39, L40 and WN8 postcodes, and the suggested donation is £11 a tree. Registration is open on the Queenscourt website, or call the fundraising team on 01704 517420. The hospice says last year’s collection took in more than 1,700 trees and raised more than £32,000. The trees are chipped and reused for biofuel and wildlife habitats. For the council’s Christmas and New Year collection days, see our Christmas bin collections page.

How we chose

These are the places people around Southport look to for a real tree, chosen because they grow or sell trees every year and publish their own 2026 dates or prices. They are the barn at Halsall, the grower at Bickerstaffe, the farm near St Helens and a nursery that delivers and publishes its prices. We have not visited them for this guide. Prices, dates and opening hours come from each seller’s own website on 5 November 2026.

Some familiar names are missing because we could not check them. Dobbies at Birkdale sells cut Nordmann firs most years, but its website blocked our checks, so we could not confirm 2026 dates or prices. Wright’s in Formby and The Waterloo Cracker post only on Facebook. West Lancs Christmas Trees in Burscough still said it was closed until 2026 when we checked. We will add any of them once their 2026 details can be confirmed.

For more on the season, see the Southport Christmas market, the Christmas lights switch-on, our Christmas shopping guide, Christmas dinner in Southport, ice rinks near Southport, what’s on this month, things to do in Southport and the business directory.
